REMINDERS

This week made one thing clear: visibility only exists if people defend it. Show up at the City Council Meeting to support the SVHS Students who will make their own public comment. You can be there for support, and/or make a comment of your own. Your presence will be appreciated and send a strong message of support TO the students and of support FOR the students to the City Council.

The SVHS Pride flag didn’t become a “debate” by accident. It became one because decisions were made without students, without transparency, and without accountability.

If you care about LGBTQIA+ students, student safety, and who gets to decide what belongs in our public spaces, show up and speak up.

WAKE UP SONOMA and NBRRN ARE DOING A “WHAT IF ICE IS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD” TRAINING ON JANUARY 31st.
The training is full, but if you didn’t get into this training, below is something being offered by NO KINGS that you might want to participate in. Our training will cover some of this as well. We hear that the big next NO KINGS protest will be announced THIS WEEK, and we will let you know as soon as we know.

POSSIBLE additional training to be offered again by Wake UP Sonoma and NBRRN. Please note this is NOT an official legal observer training but will provide you with similar content and skills.

TRYING TO STAY ON TOP OF SOCIAL MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENTS!
The Pop UP protest today at noon on the plaza caused some confusion due to Social media delays and crazy algorithms. We had someone ask to get this together with just 2 hours advance notice so some people felt out of the loop. We would like to make some recommendations to minimize confusions.

1. Join our Private FACEBOOK page. You will have to request to join and get approved. If you get declined it’s because your profile may appear to be a fake profile due to minimal content. If that happens to you, just reach out via email (wakeupsonoma@gmail.com) to let us know and we will admit you after we know you are a real person. We post our pop ups and recent events at the top of our feed. New events should be pinned at the top.

2. Follow us on instagram. @Wake.up.sonoma. If you hear rumors of a pop up or event that you're not sure about, you can go to our instagram profile page and see our newest posting there. Also, follow our stories.

3. Make sure you are signed up for our newsletter, but if you are receiving this, then you are signed up!! However, sometimes the newsletter is not visible in email feeds - not sure why. Make it a habit to search your email for WAKE UP SONOMA NEWSLETTER and they should all pop up. There are often several a week these days, or at least once a week.

4. Don’t forget to visit our website often. www.wakeupsonoma.org. Get familiar with our EVENTS tab to stay in the loop on events, and get familiar with the BLOG, RESOURCES, VOLUNTEER tabs as well to see the many other resources we offer.
