Sally Kohn is a nationally recognized television commentator, writer and executive presence coach working with top executives and political leaders.  

A frequent guest on CNN and MSNBC — and, once upon a time, Fox News — Sally's first book THE OPPOSITE OF HATE was published in April 2018.  She is on the Board of Contributors for USA Today and a contributing editor to Afar magazine. Sally is also a TED Curator and her three hit TED Talks have been viewed more than 6 million times. She is also a popular keynote speaker at business conferences and on college campuses talking about how to end political division and save democracy by cultivating connection and belonging.

She was also a distinguished Vaid Fellow at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute, where she published a groundbreaking guidebook for organizing campaigns to win domestic partnership benefits.  Sally also worked as a consultant with the Urban Justice Center, publishing a report on the experiences of gay youth in the New York juvenile justice system.

In fun and informative talks filled with powerful personal stories and mind-blowing research, Sally helps teams and communities move past conflict to find their common ground.  She leaves audiences feeling more empowered, hopeful and inspired.

Martín Gobbée is a bilingual and bicultural Argentinian who has a strong community presence as the General Manager at The Beacon Bar in Sonoma and formerly the Taub Family Outpost in Sonoma for the past 5 years. He has as a work history as a restaurant manager and leader in the industry, and has a Master of Fine arts in acting from Brandeis University. Martín and Sally are friends who met once upon a long time ago in New York and Martín will be the moderator for this Fireside Chat.

Wake UP Sonoma held their first Neighborhood Pod Conversation Monday night. We had 6 neighborhoods show up and we had a robust conversation about how to get their pods started. If you are interested in starting a pod in your neighborhood and start to build a village where you live that makes you feel connected to your neighbors and create a safety plan where you live, sign up!

We will explore resources for pods, and ways to get organized and what to do in case of a disaster, ICE in your neighborhood and more. Start small, and see where it goes.

SEVEN PAUSES GOT US GROUNDED

On February 7th, the Reverend Dr. Curran Reichert presented a workshop at Burlingame Hall, at the First Congregational Church of Sonoma, that is of great help for anyone navigating trauma, the stresses of activism, or simply the overwhelming demands of modern life. Organized by Wake UP Sonoma as part of its "Little Islands of Sanity" initiative, this 90-minute session offered practical tools for understanding and regulating our nervous systems during challenging times.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FUND DEVELOPMENT TEAM
Our work is increasingly important - be part of this growing and exciting team to grow our funding.

Wake Up Sonoma is looking for volunteers to join our Fund Development Team.  If you are someone who has  experience in fund development and who:

•  Is a good communicator who cares about social justice and wants to make a difference in Sonoma Valley

•  Has writing and/or research skills that could contribute towards grant writing

•  Is a good connector and has contacts with local professionals and businesses in Sonoma Valley

•  Understands and likes to work with systems for building strategies in fund development

•  Sees yourself as a leader, or whose strength is behind the scenes 

If you see yourself in one or more of these areas, and are interested in the future sustainability of Wake UP Sonoma, we would love to connect.
