Pretty soon, we will be putting out an end-of-year message that will help us all reminisce about this past year and what we have been going through as a community, especially as a result of the November 2024 election. But, for today, The Board of Wake UP Sonoma sits in a place of pure thanks-giving for Sonoma Valley. To be part of a community that gives, shows up, and strengthens our defense against a fascist regime with each event, each film, each community meeting, and each food and clothing drive we hold. YOU are incredible. You have Woken UP Sonoma!
________________________________ We would be remiss not to acknowledge that Thanksgiving carries some very controversial messages. For many, especially Indigenous communities, the holiday symbolizes the beginning of colonization which led to the oppression and suffering of Native American communities. For them, this is a painful day. We urge you on this day, to take a reflective moment to acknowledge, atone and empath with our country’s true first Americans, especially as we see this Nation under the duress of a regime that is racist and bigoted in every way possible. We do need to stay awake, acknowledge the wrongs of our past, and look forward to a path that truly is inclusive and welcoming to all.
