Let’s have a deeper conversation about:
Immigrant and community safety and food insecurity. As things continue to change and morph and become even unbelievably scarier, we all need a place to process what we are feeling and how to transform those feelings into action and sanity. Local Immigrant and food organizations have all done such an amazing job of bringing information to the community. They have educated us about their organizations and their priorities... but we hope to take it a bit deeper. 

This is the first one of these community conversations we are putting together. We are learning as we go about how to get people involved in the discussion.  People are done with being talked at, and they want to have a more active conversation. Here it is!

SONOMA SNAP BUDDY
PROGRAM

Buy ONLY local grocery store gift cards- cards that can just be used to shop at that grocery store, like Safeway, Sonoma Market, Lucky’s, Whole Foods, etc.

Each card must be $20. For example, if you can donate $200, buy ten $20 grocery cards (not one $200 card).

Gift cards donated through this program that go to La Luz will be incorporated into their

SNAP (EBT) emergency relief program while supplies are available. La Luz may ask for proof EBT status.

ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF GROCERY GIFT CARD DONATION DRIVE - 11-10 through 11-17.
Even though SNAP benefits may be restored soon, we are still here supporting those that are in need.
We want to make donating a little easier for you.

If you donate to Wake UP Sonoma using this link:

and indicate in the note field - “SNAP Buddy Card”, We will take that money and buy gift cards that will go directly to distribution sites - Vintage House and La Luz.

ALSO at the Community Conversation Nov. 15, we will have a gift card drive there as well - money donated to us that day will go directly to SNAP BUDDY grocery cards.

1. Pick up grocery cards from Refill Madness and bring to distribution sites as needed (La Luz and Vintage house)
2. Canvass the community with informing materials about the program.

Wake UP Sonoma has been on the front line of bringing ACTIONS to the Sonoma Valley to keep pace with the National waves of actions and protests, sponsored by Indivisible, 50501, Womens’ March, ACLU, and others. We strive to ensure that Sonoma Valley is included. BUT, we cannot continue to do this
without more solid show up roll up your sleeves help.

We are looking for self-starters to get involved to do things such as: form a street/tabling team to get the word out, help organize protests, be part of a visibility brigade, research current boycotts, write articles for our newsletter, put rally’s together, organize community conversations, bring the big noise to Sonoma Valley!!
